Learning For All Whatever it Takes
I believe every student has the potential to positively impact society. Every one of my students will enter my classroom with skills, passions, and experiences different from any other student. These qualities have built up and are desperately waiting for their chance to reveal themselves to the world. Often times within today’s classrooms, teachers quell these skills and strengths in favor of a more teacher-led, black and white, educational experience.
In my classroom, I see my role as a guide; the one who directs my students down a path that encourages their skills, passions, and unique experiences to shine. Additionally, my students will be supported and uplifted when they step outside of their comfort zones to potentially discover new strengths.
I believe that the teaching profession is a calling. However, there are too many instances of outstanding teachers leaving our profession every year because they have lost their passion for teaching. In order to be the best teacher I can be, I must never lose this passion. This is why it is critically important that I connect with my students’ families, fellow teachers, administrators, and community members who share the same passion and excitement for inspiring children that I do. I will be a strong presence in my students’ lives within the confines of my school, but I will also be involved in their lives outside of school as well. Whether this means grocery shopping at the local market, or attend community-planned events I will be an active participant in my students’ neighborhoods and communities.
Most importantly I believe the essence of teaching is about creating meaningful learning experiences for every child, which emphasize:
There are many resources and systems to accomplish my teaching and learning philosophy: my own classroom community, meaningful, important classroom lessons, parent connection and communication, resources in the community and on the Internet, and my own continued learning and on-going professional development.

- children's active participation in their learning, they should be able to talk with peers and make choices based on personal interest to them.
- teaching meaningful and important lessons that are relevant and essential to high performing student achievement.
- curriculum content and teaching strategies that consider the developmental stage of each child, their learning style, their current academic level, diverse background and their individual schema of the world.
- working collaboratively with my grade level team members to provide intervention and enrichment to all first grade students.
- the regular use of technology to showcase our work, publish student writing and create a purpose/audience for our learning.
- consistent and on-going assessment of student progress
